Dr. Rylan Graham (PhD) is an Assistant Professor in the School of Planning and Sustainability at the University of Northern British Columbia. His research focuses on growth management, intensification, neighbourhood change, and downtown revitalization, with a particular focus on mid-sized Canadian cities. Dr. Graham is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with the Planning Institute of British Columbia and a Full Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (MCIP). Before entering academia, he practiced as a professional planner in Alberta and Saskatchewan. He has delivered presentations and workshops to urban planners and municipal professionals across Canada, offering practical insights that inform policy and planning practice.
This panel will showcase the early experiences and emerging lessons from a community-engaged, participatory research project titled Key Features of Youth Mental Health-Friendly Neighborhoods: A Comparative Case Study. Funded by the Saskatchewan Health Research Foundation, this study examines how neighborhood design impacts youth mental health by engaging youth in identifying and prioritizing the neighbourhood features that support their mental health. We will compare two inner-city neighborhoods (North Central and Heritage) and two suburban neighborhoods (Harbour Landing and Glencairn) within the city of Regina.
