The Planning and Development Act, 2007 provided a new tool for planners to use to address intermunicipal land use and development issues. Section 32.1 of the Act enables the creation of Intermunicipal Development Agreements to be adopted by bylaw and form part of the respective municipal Official Community Plans. This tool establishes the legal framework to guide policy and standards binding each municipality regarding development in areas where there is a shared interest.
