Daniel McLaren is a Senior Planner with the City of Saskatoon. He graduated from the Regional and Urban Planning Program at the University of Saskatchewan and has worked his entire professional career at the City of Saskatoon. In 2023-2024 he collaborated with the team of planners to bring forward amendments to the Zoning Bylaw to remove minimum parking requirements across the city of Saskatoon.
In 2024, Saskatoon and Regina joined many other Canadian communities to remove minimum parking requirements. In discussion with individuals representing different perspectives, what happened next? Inviting conversation from a wide ranging group including elected officials, bylaw regulators, and developers, we discuss the new environment of development without minimum parking requirements; what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and how has the conversation around development, mobility and transportation changed? We will discuss the parking regulations that have changed in Saskatoon recently and open the discussion up to guest speakers and the audience to learn about the impacts of changes to parking regulation over the past couple of years in Saskatchewan.
