Tyson McShane is a professional planner who is currently the Manager of Saskatoon’s Long Range Planning Section. He has a background in policy development and neighbourhood design, having previously worked for Saskatoon’s land developer, Saskatoon Land which saw him leading the design and development a 650 acre neighbourhood. His current role has seen him overseeing the development of large-scale Sector Plans for the City of Saskatoon, supervising the development of a new natural areas planning framework, and maintaining and overseeing the implementation of Saskatoon’s Official Community Plan.
This presentation will provide an overview of Saskatoon’s historic approach to long range planning and how it has evolved, leading to an introduction to new tools being developed to monitor and guide Saskatoon’s planning approach into the future. It will blend historical approaches to design and development, with an overview the policies and tools used implement the vision outlined in Saskatoon’s Official Community Plan and ultimately, the Planning and Development Act, and the Government of Saskatchewan’s Statements of Provincial Interest.
