Dr. Robert (Bob) Patrick, PhD, MCIP, RPP is a Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and Professor of Geography and Planning at the University of Saskatchewan where he is Chair of the Regional and Urban Planning program. Bob teaches watershed planning and urban sustainability to undergraduate students. He has supervised over 25 graduate students in the field of water resource planning and management. His community-based research involves the protection of drinking water sources, climate change adaptation and land use planning with First Nation communities across western Canada. Bob developed drinking-water protection guidelines for the governments of Canada and the Northwest Territories. Internationally, Bob has conducted research and teaching in Peru, Mexico and Australia in the areas of integrated water resource management, sustainable cities and regional planning. His current projects include land use and watershed planning as well as community-based climate change adaptation planning with First Nations in Canada. Bob has authored 2 books and over 30 academic articles.
In 2015, United Nations Member States adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to guide global action on the urgent economic, social, and environmental challenges facing our planet. To be considered a success, we must localize the SDGs with local priorities in Canadian communities. This presentation will highlight the current Local Futures project with a case study from Yorkton, Saskatchewan.
