2020 – 2022 Executive Council

Scott Assie, RPP, MCIP

Councillor
Advocacy and Public Relations
As a child I’ve lived in Lemberg and Saskatoon, before finally settling in Regina, which I consider to be my hometown. I have a Bachelor of Science in Geography from the University of Regina, and a Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning from Queen’s University. I became a planner because I’ve always been fascinated with cities, and especially downtown environments. I didn’t even know the profession existed until I took an urban geography course in university. I fell in love with the profession ever since! I have worked with GeoVerra Inc. (formerly Altus Group) a geomatics company based in Western Canada for the past 10 years. I work directly with the private, and public sectors in the subdivision of land, policy development, creation of OCPs and ZBs, and general planning services. I joined the SPPI Council because I’m a firm believer of giving back whatever you take out of an organization. Like many others, I’ve benefited tremendously from SPPI over the years. I always intended to volunteer with SPPI, and with the pandemic slowing down our lives, I felt the time was right to put my name forward. I’d like to see SPPI offer in person events again in 2022 (as long as it is safe to do so). Virtual events serve their purpose, but there is nothing like having a beer with your colleagues! Interesting fact about me? I’ve been to 25 unique professional sporting venues (arenas, stadiums, etc.), ask me about some of my favourites!
